Vulnerability Assessment

VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT IS THE SYSTEMATIC PROCESS OF IDENTIFYING WEAKNESSES IN PHYSICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE FEATURES WHICH MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF ATTACK FROM IDENTIFIED THREATS.

When your systems and people are not prepared for a specific threat like that from CBRN then your vulnerability may be an attractor for terrorists seeking to maximise damage and impact.

To help our clients to address this important aspect of business continuity planning in today’s world, we have developed a comprehensive vulnerability assessment method specifically focused at addressing these new threats.

Our assessment process uses walk-down techniques covering best practice engineering and design principles captured from agencies such as Fire Services, Police Forces, the U.K Home Office, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and the Armed Forces among others.

The assessment recognises the availability of specialised detection systems that can provide early warning of a CBRN attack that might otherwise be un-revealed until symptoms develop.

A typical assessment framework could be;
  • Building services and supplies
  • Car parking/vehicle access
  • Landscaping/immediate environment
  • Publicly accessible areas
  • Building reception
  • Post
  • Deliveries
  • Working areas
  • Housekeeping
  • Ventilation
  • Visitors
  • Staff
  • Contractors/agency workers
  • Information and data security
  • Document security
  • Business arrangements
  • Event and incident management
  • Maintenance / spares

Following completion of the assessment we provide a detailed report summarising the identified risks from CBRN agents and recommendations that may reduce these risks.

For maritime environments the assessment encompasses the audit and review requirements specified in ISPS Code Part A para 9.4.1 and Part B para 16.59.2.
