Ventilation RegulationsProviding clean air through technology and innovationThe following regulations apply to all new buildings from 1st January 1992 and all existing buildings from 1st January 1996:
"Mechanical ventilation systems (including air conditioning systems) should be regularly and properly cleaned, tested and maintained to ensure that they are kept clean and free from anything that may contaminate the air."
“As part of the Governments' commitment to reduce death, injury and damage caused by fire, the government has implemented radical changes in fire safety Law. Existing fire safety Law will be repealed or revoked. This new legislation is a fire risk assessment based approach where the responsible person(s) for the premises must decide how to address the risks identified. This risk assessment must include the catering facilities grease extract system as this is a potential high risk area, and subsequent action must be taken to reduce this risk by removal of the flammable grease deposits.” Grease from the cooking operation accumulates in the extract ventilation system and presents a real fire hazard for the building and building occupants unless removed. The Heating & Ventilating Contractors Association (HVCA) has published TR/19 'Guide to Good Practice - Internal Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems'. TR/19 Section 7 deals specifically with the standards of cleaning for grease extract ventilation systems to eliminate fire hazards. For more details on the regulations specified through TR/19 please contact EMS Ductclean UK who will be happy to advise you on the standards and how to select your specialist contractor. |
