It is dedicated to ensuring its members work to the exacting standards required by legislation in the Asbestos Industry by providing first class training and free advice and by also representing its members' interests within organisations such as HSE's Asbestos Liaison Group (ALG), British Standards Institute (BSI) and the Asbestos Building Inspectors Certification Scheme (ABICS).

The Safety and Reliability Society was formed in the UK in 1980, and now has approximately 600 members in the UK, mainland Europe, the Middle East, USA and the Asia Pacific region.
